The ‘Mangrove Click! Australia’ app is an e-book, and a living expert guide to all 47 Mangrove plants in Australia, plus 6 common Associate plants. AND, this app has KEYS to help identify your mangrove specimen!

Do you have an interest in mangroves? Do you know that Australia has more than half of all the World’s mangrove species? Do you know how to identify the different mangrove types? What mangroves grow in your area? Why are mangroves important? You will find answers to all these questions, and more, in the Mangrove AU e-book guide.

It is just like having your very own mangrove expert on call. This botanical guide has descriptions and images at your fingertips of all known mangrove plants in Australia. It has been compiled and written by Dr Norman C Duke, long time mangrove ecologist and marine science specialist, for MangroveWatch Ltd, the charitable, not-for-profit environmental monitoring NGO for tidal wetlands.

For each species, hybrid and varietal form, the guide provides at least 7 photographic images (growth form, leaves, stem base, bark, flowers, diagnostic features, dispersal propagules), Australian distribution map, World distribution map, flowering & fruiting times, and written botanical descriptions. The observations, images and data presented provides the latest up-to-date botanical information from the Mangrove Flora Project conducted over the last three decades.

The purpose of the guide is two-fold: one, to show off the diversity and distribution of mangrove plants; and two, to improve knowledge of them. For this, you are invited to contribute by helping fill gaps revealed in the guide. It could be a new image, or just a better one, or, it could be more information on peak flowering and fruiting periods, or even a new species! It happens! All such observations are essential information for understanding what is happening in the world around us! Scientists and environmental managers everywhere need your help. Your observations of local occurrences and events is essential and much needed!

Check out the list for any selected region in the country, and let Dr Norm know if the species regional list needs correction or updating. In so doing, please use the Capture facility to send a photograph and message showing diagnostic parts of the specimen to verify your observations, along with the location where it was growing. Your contribution maybe more important than you might imagine. And, you will be acknowledged, especially when your information is used in on-going upgrades of the guide.

So, come - find out more about these absolutely fascinating plants. You will not be disappointed!
